5 Winning Tips to Incorporate Into Your Company’s Strategic Planning Success
Working with our facilitator was a phenomenal experience. It helped us gain insight and capture our goals in a fun and rewarding way. Here are 5 tips that I suggest incorporating into your company’s strategic planning success:
1.) Build and/or revisit your company’s mission, values and goals. This will help ensure you achieve the goals you initially intended and to build upon ones that you’ve already attained. Whether you are a new company just starting up, a year, 3 years, 5 years or 50 years down the entrepreneur road…it is such an asset to have all of your executives on the same page. It will help break down any communication barriers, help set attainable goals (financially, personally, company). It helps make sure you are on the right path and still in line with your mission as a company and your values as a human being.
2.) Host an Objective Facilitator. Someone who can help you see all sides, keep you focused on
3.) Take Mental Breaks. It is essential that you schedule “time off” or “fun time” with the group, too. That helps everyone process and unwind from the sometimes difficult thinking points. It can be tough to tackle new ideas or get some creative juices flowing. It’s important to take those “chocolate” breaks.
4.) Develop a Strategy. As with anything, it’s best to capture all of the information discussed to review at later meetings. This will help keep everyone on track and also may spark new thoughts or ideas. We captured ours on a Post-It Easel. We used different colored sticky notes for each of us and our ideas and tasks in the company.
5.) Work the Plan! Get clear on your big picture and develop a plan of action for your priorities. We re-visit ours each month we meet. We make sure we are on task and that we are achieving the goals we set. We also have the opportunity to shift things/tasks around because they are on post-its. We don’t have to re-write the whole plan each time.
I cannot say enough about how much this has helped the success of our business and how focused we are when we re-visit our goals. I am thankful that we had an awesome, objective facilitator to help us to build our company’s mission, values and goals in such a rewarding and fun way. She helped us develop our strategy and we are continuing to work the plan! I look forward to our next retreat/strategic planning session and to grow our company in the direction which suits all of us and our best interests!
